Killer Turns Himself In After Murdering Girlfriend and Her Mom

MIAMI, FL: A man was arrested Wednesday morning after he claimed to have shot and killed his former girlfriend and her mother in a Miami condominium building. The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at the Yolanda Villas Condominium located at 801 Northwest 47th Avenue in the Flagami area.

According to Miami Police officials, the victims, 22-year-old Isbelsy Olivera and her mother, 50-year-old Irisbel Cartalla, were discovered dead from gunshot wounds inside a unit within the building. The suspect, identified as the ex-boyfriend of Isbelsy Olivera, managed to gain access to the building and reportedly ambushed the two women.

Miami Police spokesperson Kiara Delva stated, “What we can confirm is that the suspect somehow was able to ambush both that mother and daughter, and they were found deceased inside of their apartment building complex.”

A neighbor mentioned that the mother and daughter shared a unit on an upper floor, with the mother providing cleaning services for the condominium complex and the daughter offering manicures from their residence. Describing the victims, Jacqueline Granda said that the victims were very nice, hardworking women; it’s a shame that this unfortunate incident occurred. Granda added, “I wish the family all the best.”

One resident in the building reported hearing that the daughter’s ex-boyfriend waited for a client to exit the unit before entering and shooting the two women before fleeing the scene.

The suspect later surrendered to West Miami Police and confessed to the crime. Miami Police have taken him into custody. Neighbors and acquaintances have identified the suspect as 48-year-old Carlos Travieso. Although not officially confirmed, Travieso is recognizable in several pictures on the victims’ social media profiles. Jail records indicate that he is facing two charges of first-degree murder.

The building has a security associate at the front gate, which suggests that the suspect must have bypassed this security point before reaching the upper floor.

“The investigation is ongoing; there are still many aspects to consider, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation,” stated Delva. He also added that they are also looking into how the suspect gained access to the apartment complex and that there are many aspects of this investigation that are still in progress.
