Formal Charges Brought Against Suspect in Shooting Death of 77-Year-Old Man on Birmingham’s Parkway East

Birmingham, Alabama – The suspect in the shooting death of a 77-year-old man on Parkway East has been charged with capital murder and other offenses. Anthony Dubose Jr., 25, is accused of fatally shooting Stephen A. Keith Jr. while he was driving. He is also charged with attempted murder in a separate incident. The events unfolded just after 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday when reports of an SUV shooting at a sedan were received. The shooter was later located and a crash ensued, resulting in Keith’s death and another individual sustaining serious injuries.

Keith was rushed to UAB Hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the truck involved in the crash also suffered serious injuries, including a broken back. Meanwhile, another person was injured in a separate shooting incident. The suspect was apprehended in a park on the city’s east side, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the arrest. Initially believed to be caught in crossfire, authorities later determined that Keith had been targeted. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

This incident marks Birmingham’s 135th homicide of the year. Dubose is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident on Parkway East.
