MADERA, Calif. – On Sunday evening, a tragic shooting occurred in a neighborhood in Madera, California, causing shock and concern among the local community. Madera police responded to reports of a car crash and gunfire near East 14th and B Streets, where they discovered 35-year-old Carlos Bazante shot and killed.
The police believe that Bazante was shot while driving, resulting in the car crash. Despite the celebrations for the New Year, the shooter and the motive behind the shooting are still under investigation. This violence has deeply unsettled the neighbors, although it is not entirely unprecedented in the area, which has a history of gang-related incidents.
Sgt. Matthew McCombs of the Madera Police noted that at least 15 rounds were fired, with six hitting the vehicle and one hitting a nearby house. The evidence suggests that a single shooter was responsible for the attack. Tragically, Bazante’s death marks the third homicide in Madera this year.
The community is still reeling from the unsolved homicides of Thomas Aparicio and Joaquin Navarette in January and May, respectively. The police continue to urge anyone with information about any of these cases to come forward and assist in the investigations.
Despite the challenges, law enforcement remains committed to collecting evidence and witness statements in the hopes of bringing the perpetrators to justice. With continued efforts, they aim to provide closure to the grieving families and ensure the safety of the community.
