LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Director William Friedkin’s 1987 serial killer thriller Rampage is set to receive a 4K Ultra HD release from Kino Lorber. The remastered version of the film is sparking renewed interest in this classic movie.
Rampage tells the story of serial killer Charlie Reece, based on real-life “Vampire Killer” Richard Trenton Chase. The film delves into the chilling descent into madness of a seemingly ordinary man, played by Michael Biehn. As Reece’s inner demons take hold, he embarks on a violent killing spree that shocks a small California town.
The movie delves into the psychology of its central character, offering a gripping and disturbing look at the thin line that separates sanity from madness. It is a suspenseful thriller that examines the dark and terrifying facets of the human psyche.
Rampage faced several challenges before its official release. Its distributor, De Laurentiis Entertainment Group, went bankrupt after it was made, leaving the film on the shelf for five years. Friedkin re-edited the film and changed the ending before Miramax picked it up and released it officially in 1992.
While there is no release date yet for the 4K Ultra HD version of Rampage, Kino Lorber has announced that it will be coming soon, providing an opportunity for both new audiences and longtime fans to experience this intense and harrowing film.
