London, England – A 16-year-old suspect has been released on bail following the tragic death of 16-year-old Harry Pitman on New Year’s Eve. Pitman was stabbed to death on Primrose Hill in North London as celebrants gathered for the New Year’s fireworks display.
The 6ft 3in schoolboy died despite receiving CPR for ten minutes at the scene where tens of thousands of people had gathered to watch the 2024 fireworks. Pitman had been waiting with friends when he was involved in an altercation that resulted in “senseless violence” and “devastating consequences,” according to the police.
Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Grogan expressed condolences to Pitman’s family and friends and emphasized the importance of gathering information from witnesses. He urged anyone with information about the altercation or the attack to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing and being led by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Pitman’s death marks the 22nd teenager to be murdered in the capital in 2023. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in the coming days as authorities continue to seek justice for the young victim.
