Dramatic New Year’s Eve Shooting at Denver Museum of Nature and Science

DENVER, Colorado – A father in Colorado shot a robbery suspect on New Year’s Eve after the suspect allegedly opened fire on the man’s family outside the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in an attempted robbery. The suspect, 21-year-old Oscar Alejandro Mendoza, is facing attempted murder charges in addition to attempted robbery and felony menacing charges after attempting to rob a family in the museum parking lot.

According to reports, the family, who has chosen to remain unidentified, had pulled into the museum parking lot when two men approached them with handguns drawn. The suspects demanded a silver chain from the victim and one of the men hit the victim in the back of his head with the butt of the handgun. The victim then pulled out his own gun and pointed it at the two men, leading to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in Mendoza being shot.
