A small plane crashed in Tokyo, Louisiana, on Saturday, killing three people and injuring one, according to authorities. The single-engine plane went down in a residential neighborhood and struck a car, setting both on fire. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
The victims were two men and a woman. The survivor, a woman, was in critical condition. The plane had just taken off from Lakefront Airport when it crashed.
There were no injuries on the ground, according to New Orleans Fire Department spokesman Edwin Holmes. He said it appeared that the pilot had tried to land the plane on the road.
The aircraft did not have a black box, identified by the homeowner as Dung Pham, 37, who watched the crash scene outside his house. The plane struck the roof of a small storage building behind his house, causing it to collapse and catch fire.
The victims and survivor were not identified. The New Orleans coroner’s office will release their identities after autopsies.
