SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – A tragic incident in Foothill Farms, just northeast of Sacramento, has left a California mother devastated after her 10-year-old son was shot and killed during a supposed “sore loser” altercation with another young boy. The alleged shooter, also 10 years old, reportedly became upset after losing a bicycle race and resorted to violence.
The victim, Keith “KJ” Frierson, was playing with friends near his home when the shooting occurred, according to KCRA. His mother, Brittani Frierson, expressed her anguish at a vigil held for her son, lamenting that he was simply enjoying a race with friends on his new bike before the tragic incident unfolded.
According to NBC News, the alleged shooter’s actions were based on eyewitness accounts from a neighbor’s child who was present during the bike race. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday.
Following the shooting, authorities arrested a 10-year-old boy and his father, Arkete Davis, 53, in connection to the incident. The investigation revealed that the child obtained a gun from Davis’ vehicle and allegedly shot and killed Keith Frierson. Furthermore, Davis attempted to discard the firearm by throwing it into a nearby trashcan, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office detailed the charges against Davis, including possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal storage of a firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment, and acting as an accessory to a crime after the fact. Davis is expected to appear in court, while his son’s identity remains undisclosed due to his status as a minor.
As the community grapples with this heartbreaking loss, the pursuit of justice for Keith “KJ” Frierson remains at the forefront. The tragic incident has shed light on the devastating consequences of gun violence and the impact it has on families and communities.
