Lusaka, Zambia – As the year 2023 came to a close, the unwavering generosity of supporters made a significant impact on the lives of countless animals around the world. Donations played a crucial role in rescuing street dogs and cats from hunger, abuse, and disease, as well as saving the lives of hundreds of drought-stricken donkeys.
In Lusaka, Zambia, street dogs faced daily struggles for survival, battling hunger, disease, and the horrors of human cruelty. Partnering with the Cactus Foundation, efforts were made to provide rescued dogs with essential food, veterinary care, and shelter. With over 360 animals in their care, additional support was desperately needed. The donations received were instrumental in providing these animals with life-saving resources, ultimately changing their lives for the better.
In Cape Town, South Africa, an outbreak of a deadly canine distemper virus brought about devastation in the community of Vrygrond. Animals were suffering from severe starvation, mange, and painful injuries from dog fights and stabbings. Through the support of donors, urgent funds for vaccines to combat distemper, mange treatment, and general veterinary care for severe injuries and infections were rushed to the area. The generosity of supporters made a life-saving difference for animals like Nova, a puppy in distress.
Late November saw a devastating drought in the Matabeleland region of Zimbabwe, endangering 300 donkeys with starvation due to a lack of fodder. The donation received allowed for the delivery of emergency supplies, sparing the animals from imminent starvation. The support provided was a lifeline for the desperate donkeys in their time of need.
The unwavering support of donors also made a difference in providing chronic medication for elderly horses, enriching the lives of rescued shelter dogs, and enabling vital sterilizations and veterinary care for animals in various locations including Hoedspruit and Agia Anna. These acts of kindness were made possible entirely by the generosity of supporters.
