Burglary suspect in the killing of Colorado businessman arrested after 3rd heist

AURORA, Colo. – A 39-year-old man from Aurora is now in custody in Jefferson County for his alleged involvement in the burglary of Peter Damien Fine Jewelry and Antiques on December 26. This is the same store where beloved businessman Peter Arguello was tragically killed during a robbery on November 29.

The suspect, Charles Robinson Shay, was already being tracked by police in connection with a stolen Polestar vehicle. According to authorities, the stolen vehicle was seen outside the jewelry store around 5 a.m. on the day of the burglary.

Following the killing of store owner Peter Arguello, the store had been emptied out. It was revealed in a police affidavit that investigators had been interested in Shay since a crime lab report in December linked his DNA to the flex cuffs used during the robbery.

Shay has a criminal record, with previous arrests in Colorado for offenses including theft, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and DUI. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft and second-degree burglary, but has not been charged in the killing of Peter Arguello.

There is no information available on how many people may have been involved in the robbery and murder. However, two ball caps, matching those seen on surveillance video from the store, were found in the burned pickup truck that had been stolen and later set ablaze.

The investigation into the tragic events at the jewelry store continues, as authorities work to uncover more evidence and bring those responsible to justice.
