Kingsburg-Based Company’s Fruits Linked to Deadly Listeria Outbreak, CDC Warns

KINGSBURG, California – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a warning about a Listeria outbreak linked to fruits from HMC Farms, a company based in Kingsburg. This outbreak has resulted in 11 infections and one death, with cases reported in seven different states. The affected fruits include peaches, nectarines, and plums, which were sold between May 1 and November 15, 2022 and 2023.

The FDA recently discovered Listeria in samples of peaches from HMC Farms, prompting the company to recall all affected fruits. Although these products are no longer available for sale, the CDC advises people to thoroughly check their kitchens for any of the recalled products and discard them immediately to prevent the potential spread of Listeria.

Listeria is a harmful bacteria, especially to pregnant individuals, those over the age of 65, and people with weakened immune systems. As a result, it is crucial for anyone who may have purchased these fruits to take the necessary precautions and dispose of them to avoid any potential health risks.

This outbreak serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the potential dangers of consuming contaminated products. It also highlights the essential role of government agencies such as the CDC and FDA in monitoring and addressing public health concerns related to foodborne illnesses.

As the investigation into the Listeria outbreak continues, it is essential for consumers to stay informed and follow the guidance provided by health authorities to protect themselves and their families from potential health risks associated with contaminated food products.
