Murder-Suicide Tragedy Unfolds at Aiken Gas Station Involving Augusta Couple

AIKEN, S.C. – An Augusta couple tragically lost their lives in a murder-suicide outside an Aiken gas station on Monday, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at Murphy Express gas station on Richland Avenue, where the man, George Britt, got into a heated argument with his wife, Tiffany Britt, who was an employee at the station. Despite the intervention efforts of an off-duty deputy, the altercation ended in gunfire, said Aiken Public Safety Capt. Marty Sawyer.

Tiffany Britt, 43, was shot and pronounced dead at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, while George Britt, 55, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as confirmed by Coroner Darryl Ables. Their autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.

Amid the tragedy, the off-duty deputy sustained minor injuries as he tried to assist in the situation, prompting the request for the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate due to the officer’s involvement, Capt. Sawyer stated.

The unraveling of events shed light on a cryptic Facebook post made by George Britt on December 30th, expressing his profound love for his wife and devotion to protecting her. Additionally, a woman who wished to remain anonymous shared heartfelt sentiments about Tiffany Britt, highlighting her altruistic nature and the impact she had on the lives of others.
