Manhunt Underway for Gunman in Fatal Shooting of 22-Year-Old Woman Near East L.A. Elementary School

EAST LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Authorities are seeking the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old woman near an elementary school in East L.A. last weekend. The victim, Lexus Gutierrez, was tragically killed as she sat in a car with friends.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday in the 600 block of South Humphreys Avenue, close to Humphreys Avenue Elementary School. While Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene, the owner of the car sustained a gunshot wound to the hand, and another friend in the backseat remained unharmed.

According to Gutierrez’s aunt, Patricia Ramirez, a passing car opened fire on the group, with Gutierrez being struck in the head. Describing her niece as kind and loving, Ramirez expressed the family’s devastation and desire for justice.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is currently leading the investigation into the shooting and has reported that a small, four-door sedan was seen leaving the scene. Gutierrez’s family is hopeful that security cameras in the vicinity may have captured the crime or that someone will come forward with information about the shooter.

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support Gutierrez’s family, and a vigil has been planned at the location where the shooting took place. The community is urged to provide any information that could aid in locating the shooter by contacting CrimeStoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
