Marlins Hockey Dominates on Home Ice, Extends Winning Streak Against South Dakota Competition to Five Games

MITCHELL, South Dakota – The Mitchell Marlins boys hockey team had a triumphant weekend, honoring its nine senior players on Friday night at the Mitchell Activities Center and capping the celebration with a resounding 12-1 victory against Brandon Valley. The Marlins continued their winning streak against South Dakota competition with a 5-1 road win against Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday, extending their dominance on the ice.

The game against Sioux Center saw an explosive start for Mitchell, with the team scoring six opening-period goals to set the tone for the game. In total, Mitchell outshot Brandon Valley 38-23 for the game, showcasing their offensive prowess.

As for the girls’ team, Brynlee Sabers led the Mitchell Marlins to a crucial 8-5 victory over Sioux Center in Iowa, propelling the team to the top of the state standings. Sabers’ exceptional performance, scoring a total of five goals in the game, affirmed the team’s dominance on the ice.

The victories for both the boys’ and girls’ teams solidify Mitchell’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school hockey. The Marlins are set to continue their impressive run, with the boys’ team returning home for a game against Aberdeen on February 2nd, and the girls’ team gearing up to face off against Watertown on the road on February 9th.
