Senator Lindsey Graham presses DOJ and DHS over illegal migrant brazen NYC cop attack

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK – Senate Judiciary ranking member Lindsey Graham is pressing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for answers regarding their actions on illegal migrants who attacked New York City police officers and were subsequently released without bail.

Expressing disappointment and concern, Graham wrote a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, seeking clarity on the agencies’ plans in response to the “brazen attack.” Specifically, he inquired about the potential deportation of the individuals responsible for the violent assault near Times Square in New York.

The Justice Department confirmed receipt of the letter and declined to comment further, while DHS did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter. This comes at a time when Mayorkas faces a possible impeachment vote in the House, following the clearance of a resolution for his impeachment by the House Homeland Security Committee.

Over the weekend, at least seven illegal migrants attacked a pair of New York City police officers near Times Square, resulting in their subsequent release without bail. Surveillance footage released by the New York Police Department depicted an altercation between the officers and the suspects, with the latter being seen kicking the former before fleeing and later being arrested.

The suspects were identified as Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, Kelvin Servat Arocha, Wilson Juarez, Jhoan Boada, and Yorman Reveron. All were charged with assault and subsequently released without bail, with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office confirming an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Upon leaving police custody, one of the suspects, Jhoan Boada, allegedly made a vulgar gesture towards news cameras and reporters outside the precinct station, adding further controversy to the case.

The incident involving the illegal migrants highlights the ongoing debate and challenges surrounding immigration policies and law enforcement, prompting questions about the response and consequences for individuals involved in such confrontations.

As the debate around immigration reform continues to unfold, concerns about public safety, law enforcement, and border security remain at the forefront of the national conversation. The incident in New York City serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and controversies surrounding the issue of illegal immigration, as stakeholders seek solutions and accountability in addressing such challenges.
