HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities in Harris County, Texas have arrested a 15-year-old teenager in connection with the shooting death of a former student of Cypress Lakes High School. The teenager, whose name has not been released, has been charged with murder for the death of 17-year-old Jake Mason.
The shooting took place on December 19, 2023, in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane. Following the incident, multiple campuses in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District went into “Secure the Building” mode as a precaution.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Mason was at Cypress Lakes High School waiting to pick up his girlfriend, who was a student at the school. It was reported that he was with an unidentified group of males when an altercation occurred, leading to the tragic shooting.
Upon authorities’ arrival at the scene, Mason was pronounced dead. The 15-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
