Explosion in Iron River Kills Homeowner, Displaces Neighbors: Community Support Pours In

IRON RIVER, Mich. – A devastating explosion rocked a neighborhood in Iron River Saturday night, causing a house to erupt in a blast that sent debris across multiple blocks and damaged neighboring homes. Jackie Orullien, a resident living next door to the exploded house, described the disorienting moments immediately following the explosion, stating that the power went out and there was glass everywhere.

Tragically, the 80-year-old homeowner was killed in the explosion, as confirmed by Iron River City Police Chief Curt Harrington. Fortunately, no one else was injured, but many nearby homeowners were affected, prompting the American Red Cross to provide support. Residents were evacuated to the Windsor Center for immediate shelter.

In the wake of the explosion, the community rallied together to provide aid, with a local church at the Windsor Center stepping in to cover the cost of hotel rooms for the displaced homeowners. Additionally, the American Red Cross Disaster Program Specialist, Timothy Davis, ensured that impacted individuals had access to food while they were unable to return to their homes.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the explosion, both the City Police and the West Iron County Fire Chief have emphasized that no criminal activity is suspected. Roads in the area of 7th and 8th Avenue will remain closed until the investigation is completed, adding to the disruption caused by the tragic incident.

Despite the outpouring of support from the community, the identity of the man killed in the explosion has not yet been released. The Windsor Center has also been overwhelmed by the support received and has announced that it is no longer accepting donations.
