Stabbing at Niceville Plaza Leaves Food Truck Owner Dead and Suspect in Custody

NICEVILLE, Fla. — A food truck owner in Niceville was tragically killed in an apparent stabbing on Friday night, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect. The victim, identified as Mike Ledford, 42, was the owner of the “My Ohana” food truck and died at the hospital from what appears to be a stab wound. The suspect, Dylan Deschaine of Niceville, is currently charged with two counts of battery on an officer, with more charges pending as the investigation continues.

According to Detective Sergeant Horace Pain, Deschaine spit on two officers while being apprehended, resulting in the initial charges. However, other charges are pending as the investigation into the homicide continues. The Niceville Police have confirmed that Deschaine and Ledford did not know each other.

The incident took place at the Oak Creek Plaza on John Sims Parkway, where police responded to 911 calls about a possible gunshot wound victim behind CVS. Upon arrival, officers found Ledford badly injured in his truck, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A childhood friend of the victim, Adrian Simmons, described Ledford as someone who considered everyone he knew as family. This sentiment was echoed by colleagues and friends who knew Ledford as a beloved member of the community.

While processing the crime scene, the suspect’s mother contacted the police and informed them that her son had possibly hurt someone. After negotiations, Deschaine was located hiding in a gas station bathroom and was eventually taken into custody.

Deschaine is currently being held in the Okaloosa County Jail without bond. The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing, with authorities working with the State Attorney’s Office in reference to the homicide investigation.

The loss of the food truck owner has deeply affected the community, and as the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge.
