Fentanyl Poisoning Leaves Chesterfield County with Multiple Deaths

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. – The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating several deaths in the Cheraw area, which are suspected to be linked to fentanyl poisoning. According to Captain Wayne Jordan, the Sheriff’s Office, along with the Chesterfield County Coroner, Lancaster County Coroner, and State Law Enforcement Division, are actively involved in determining the source of the drugs.

Sheriff Campbo Streater has issued a warning to the public, urging them not to touch or consume any substance that may contain fentanyl, and to immediately contact law enforcement if such a substance is encountered. “We know, from our experience yesterday in Chesterfield County there’s a deadly drug. There are some deadly drugs out there in Chesterfield County right now. Please don’t take them,” Streater expressed.

In response to the situation, Streater has formed a task force and is collaborating with neighboring counties to combat the issue of drug overdoses. He has also initiated discussions with multiple sheriffs in the region and with the State Law Enforcement Division to establish a task force to track the source of fentanyl entering the counties and causing harm to citizens. “Drug dealers do not respect boundaries, state lines, and county lines mean absolutely nothing to them. So, we’ve got to try to level the playing field when we are trying to catch these people,” Streater emphasized.

Citizens are encouraged to report any information regarding the deadly overdoses by contacting the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office at 843-623-2101. Callers may remain anonymous. This comes as authorities work diligently to address the concerning rise in drug-related fatalities in the area and to ensure the safety of the community.
