Explosion at Ann Arbor House Injures One Person: Propane Tanks Blamed for Blast

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Officials in Ann Arbor, Michigan, have provided new details regarding a house explosion that took place on Monday morning, leaving one person injured. The incident occurred at the corner of South 7th Street and Princeton Avenue, where firefighters responded to a call about a house explosion and fire just after 6 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a home completely leveled and engulfed in flames from the explosion, with the fire also posing a threat to the neighboring house on the south side.

The individual who resided in the house that exploded was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the extensive damage to the house, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring house on the south side, and they successfully extinguished the flames within 20 minutes.

According to Ann Arbor officials, the source of the explosion was two 20-pound propane tanks that were being used for heating. However, the ignition source and whether there was a fire before the explosion could not be determined due to the extent of the damage.

The investigation into the explosion has been closed, unless there are further developments. Remarkably, officials from the Ann Arbor Fire Department noted that given the force of the blast, the fact that there was only one injury to the public and relatively minor damage to surrounding buildings is remarkable.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with the use of propane tanks for heating, highlighting the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and regulations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety protocols when using such equipment to minimize the risk of accidents.
