Spectacular Victory: UTRGV Baseball Team Dominates URI Rams with 15-1 Win in Series

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team secured a decisive 15-1 victory against the Rhode Island Rams, clinching a 2-1 series win on Monday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg. Senior Zach Tjelmeland made an impressive return to the mound, ending a three-year hiatus with a stellar performance. He pitched a career-long 4.2 innings, allowing only one run and striking out seven batters without issuing a single walk.

The UTRGV bullpen also shone, with key contributions from senior Edinburg Vela alum Nico Rodriguez, and juniors Mason Kosowick and Anthony Tejada. The offensive charge was led by junior Steven Lancia, who went 5-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and graduate student CJ Valdez, who recorded a home run and six RBIs. The team’s solid performance at the plate and on the mound allowed them to dominate the URI Rams throughout the game.

UTRGV will look to carry their winning momentum into a three-game nonconference series against Milwaukee at UTRGV Baseball Stadium, which is set to commence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets for the upcoming series are now available for purchase at GoUTRGV.com/Tickets.
