RICHMOND, Calif. – A man from Oakland, California, was recently convicted for his role in a shooting incident at a house party in Richmond that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left four others injured. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office announced the conviction of Enrique Ramirez-Calmo, who now faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The shooting, which took place on Father’s Day in 2021, was reportedly driven by a mix of mistaken identity and gang-related conflicts.
Ramirez-Calmo, along with another gang member, opened fire at the Father’s Day party on June 20, 2021. The victims of the shooting, all male and aged between 18 and 45, were attending a party that had been advertised on Facebook as a “marimba” event. The incident occurred on Dunn Avenue near 20th Street in Richmond, with police later linking the shooting to gang rivalry.
Law enforcement was able to make progress in the case after discovering a ballistic match from a separate shooting in Oakland on the same night as the house party shooting in Richmond. Furthermore, video footage showed the suspects arriving at the party in a Nissan Altima. Both Ramirez-Calmo and the teenage shooter were apprehended by police in March 2022.
During the trial, prosecutors presented compelling evidence, including video captured by one of the victims during the shooting. District Attorney Diana Becton described the incident as a “senseless massacre that shattered the lives of innocent families.” Following the completion of the trial, Ramirez-Calmo was convicted on multiple counts including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and gang-related activities.
Ramirez-Calmo is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11 in Martinez. The verdict was delivered by the jury earlier in the week, reflecting the severity of the charges against him. The case was noted to have presented various challenges, as mentioned by the deputy district attorney involved. The outcome of the trial serves as a form of justice for the victims and their families, offering some closure after the tragic events that transpired at the party in Richmond.
