Dangerous Driving Leads to Multiple Fatalities on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Federal Road Safety Corps has attributed the tragic multiple road crashes that resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals in the Nasrul-Lahi-Li Fathi Society of Nigeria area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to dangerous driving.

According to FRSC Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe, the series of crashes caused injuries to around 10 passengers. The accidents reportedly involved two trucks and a commercial bus, as confirmed by eyewitness Oladele Abraham.

Abraham, who witnessed the incidents, stated that the reckless behavior of one of the truck drivers led to a chain reaction resulting in unavoidable collisions with another truck and a commercial bus. The driver reportedly made a sudden U-turn without signaling, triggering the tragic events.

FRSC’s Okpe confirmed that 15 individuals were involved in the crashes, with 10 sustaining serious injuries and five losing their lives. The cause of the crash was cited as dangerous driving by one of the trucks, which failed to indicate before making a sudden U-turn, leading to a loss of control for both the truck and the commercial bus involved.

The injured victims were promptly taken to Famobi Hospital Mowe, while the deceased were transported to Idera Hospital morgue sagamu. The collaborative rescue efforts of the FRSC, police, and other agencies were crucial in managing the aftermath of the crashes.

The Sector Commander issued a stern warning to motorists regarding the importance of safe driving practices, emphasizing the consequences for drivers involved in accidents leading to loss of life. The frequency of crashes in the corridor area is concerning, prompting a call for motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding speeding and adopting defensive driving techniques.
