Arizona Teen Beating Death: 6 Suspects Charged in Gang-Style Attack at Halloween Party

Phoenix, Arizona – Authorities in Maricopa County have announced indictments against six suspects in the death of a 16-year-old boy who was brutally beaten during a Halloween party in a Phoenix suburb. The incident occurred last year and shocked the community, prompting calls for more action to combat teen violence.

Charges of felony first-degree murder and kidnapping have been filed against four individuals – Dominic Turner, 20, William Hines, 18, Talan Renner, and Talyn Vigil, both 17 – in connection with the death of Preston Lord. Additionally, Taylor Sherman, 19, and a 17-year-old Jacob Meisner have also been indicted on similar charges. All six suspects are currently in custody.

The parents of the victim, Nick Lord and Autumn Curiel, expressed their gratitude for the progress in the case, stating that the arrests signify a step towards accountability and justice for their son. The attack on Preston Lord took place in Queen Creek on October 28, 2023, and he succumbed to his injuries two days later after being found by first responders on a roadway.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell’s office reviewed extensive evidence, including 600 videos and a 2,000-page police report, to build the case against the suspects. The investigation has revealed a possible connection between Lord’s killing and a gang known as the “Gilbert Goons,” who are believed to be behind a series of violent attacks posted on social media.

Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice emphasized that the four initial indictments are just the beginning of the legal proceedings. He highlighted the importance of pursuing justice for Preston Lord and ensuring that those responsible for his death are held accountable.

While the arrests bring some closure to the Lord family, the community remains vigilant in the fight against teen violence. Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley expressed her ongoing support for the family and praised the progress made in the pursuit of justice for Preston.

As the case progresses, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lord’s death, with a focus on unraveling the motives behind the brutal attack. The medical examiner ruled Lord’s death a homicide, marking a tragic end to a young life that has left a lasting impact on the residents of Queen Creek.
