Tragedy Unfolds: Six Found Dead in Barrhaven, Ottawa, Investigation Underway

Ottawa, Canada – Authorities in Ottawa are investigating a tragic incident in the suburb of Barrhaven, where six individuals were found dead. The Ottawa Police Service responded to a residence on Berrigan Drive late Wednesday night, discovering the bodies of two adults and four children. Another person was also found injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The victims, identified as Sri Lankan nationals by the Sri Lankan high commission in Ottawa, were confirmed to be a family. The commission stated that while the man survived, his wife and children tragically lost their lives in the incident.

Initially referred to as a “mass shooting” by Police Chief Eric Stubbs, it was later clarified by the OPS that this characterization was inaccurate. Despite one individual being taken into custody, authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

The investigation has been taken over by the OPS homicide unit, with increased police presence in the area to gather more information. Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe expressed shock and sadness at the incident, emphasizing the impact on the community.
