Attack by Migrants Alleged in the Heart of Sofia – Controversy Erupts on Social Media

Sofia, Bulgaria – A recent video posted on social media platforms alleging an attack on young boys and a girl in the heart of Sofia has prompted controversy. The clip suggests that a group of individuals of Arab origin assaulted the youths on Vitosha Boulevard in Sofia just hours before International Women’s Day on March 8.

Despite the attention the post has received online, Sofia Police have stated that they have not received any reports or signals regarding the alleged incident. Municipal councilor Deyan Nikolov from the right-wing party Revival – “Vazrazhdane,” addressed the issue, claiming that children between the ages of 12 and 14 were involved in the incident. He mentioned that a girl was reportedly attacked and insulted by migrants, leading three boys to come to her defense.

Krystian Szkwarek, a historian and political scientist, took to Facebook to express his concerns, drawing parallels to similar incidents in other European cities. He pointed out the emergence of what he described as an Afghan ghetto in Sofia near the “Women’s Market” and criticized the government for allowing such developments.

Similarly, Carlos Contrera, a member of the right-wing party VMRO-BND, raised questions about the response of the Sofia Police and municipality to the reported attack. He highlighted an alleged assault by Arabs on Bulgarian youths in the city center and called for accountability from the authorities.

These claims and reactions have sparked a debate around immigration, city safety, and government responsibility in Sofia. The city is now grappling with tensions arising from these reported incidents and calls for action to address any potential issues related to migrants in the region.
