Fatal Transit Employee Shootout Caught on Body Camera: Intense Broward County Standoff

Pompano Beach, Florida – Newly released body camera footage captures the harrowing gun battle between deputies and a Broward County Transit employee accused of fatally shooting a coworker. The incident unfolded at the Broward Transit maintenance facility late Wednesday night, with deputies engaging in a shootout with the suspect.

The footage, made public by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, reveals the moment deputies confronted the suspect, identified as Transit employee Rafael A. Molina, who allegedly shot and killed his coworker, Warren Chambers, following a dispute. Witnesses described the tense atmosphere as Molina roamed the facility with a gun in hand, prompting frantic 911 calls for assistance.

During a press conference, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony detailed the events leading up to the deadly confrontation, explaining how Molina took deliberate actions to position himself in an ambush inside a vacant bus, setting the stage for a violent encounter with responding deputies. The body camera footage shows the deputies approaching the bus with guns drawn before gunfire erupts.

Despite facing gunfire from Molina, the deputies demonstrated remarkable bravery and successfully neutralized the threat. Tragically, both Molina and Chambers lost their lives during the shootout. None of the deputies sustained injuries in the incident.

Molina, a Transit mechanic since 2007, and Chambers, hired in 2018, were both employees at the facility. In accordance with standard procedure, the deputies involved in the shooting were assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an inquiry into the incident.

Sheriff Tony commended the deputies for their courage, expressing his intent to honor them with the Medal of Honor for their valor during the intense confrontation.
