Explosion Tragedy: Teen’s Funeral Held After Fatal Canister Strike in Clinton Township

Clinton Township, Michigan – The community gathered to bid farewell to 19-year-old Turner Salter, who tragically lost his life in a violent explosion at a local business earlier in the week. The incident, which occurred at Select Distributors near 15 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway, has left investigators grappling with the aftermath.

During a recent press conference, Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon expressed determination in uncovering the root cause of the explosion and holding those responsible accountable. The Environmental Protection Agency has since been on-site, diligently working to clean up the debris scattered up to a mile and a half away from the explosion.

Local residents, like Dante and Shirley Sabatino, residing close to the scene, expressed concerns about the ongoing smoldering of the site and questioned the safety measures taken by the company in storing such hazardous materials near residential areas. Clinton Township Fire Chief Tim Duncan highlighted the challenges faced by his crew in accessing the rubble due to a major collapse that occurred during the incident.

Efforts to address the remaining hot spots and remove heavy steel debris have been hampered by the need for specialized equipment. Officials are urging the public not to interfere with any canisters or debris discovered in the vicinity and to report any damages promptly to the township authorities.

In response to the emergency situation, local officials have declared a state of emergency and are seeking financial assistance from the state to support the recovery efforts. As the investigation continues, the community remains united in mourning the loss of a young life and seeking accountability for the tragic event.
