BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – In a somber tribute to the 72 men who perished in the Willow Grove Mine explosion on March 16, 1940, a memorial service was held today to honor their lives and the families affected by the tragedy.

A memorial stone, statue, and a historic bell from the Sacred Hearts Church were installed in Willow Grove in March 2020 to commemorate the tragic event.
