Mother of Suspect Charged with Hindering Apprehension Appears in Court in Harris County Case

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A mother faced a court hearing for allegedly hindering the apprehension of her son, who is accused of the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Cloverleaf. Alva Cornejo, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Prosecutors claim that Cornejo met with her son, Terry Bryan Rivera, in a car, where he confessed to the shooting of Carlos Fernandez. Despite telling her son to turn himself in, he fled the scene. Cornejo then allegedly tried to help Rivera evade authorities by contacting someone for assistance.

The tragic incident occurred when Rivera, who is a former boyfriend of the victim’s mother, shot into the family’s apartment, killing Carlos as he slept. Fortunately, Carlos’ two younger sisters, mother, and another man present in the home were unharmed.

Following the court appearance, Cornejo was given a bond of $25,000, with the next hearing scheduled for the following morning. Meanwhile, Carlos’ funeral was set to take place at 10 a.m. on Monday. The grieving family suspects that others may be assisting Rivera in evading capture as the investigation continues.

The community remains in shock over the senseless tragedy, with many calling for justice for Carlos. The heartbreaking loss has left many questioning how such violence could occur within their neighborhood. As the case unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Despite the challenges faced by Carlos’ family, they continue to seek closure and justice for their lost loved one. The impact of this devastating event serves as a reminder of the need for community support and vigilance in preventing such tragedies from reoccurring. As the legal process moves forward, the community unites in mourning the loss of a young life taken too soon.
