Assault Suspect Michael Godla Makes Court Appearance in Longford

Longford, Ireland – A 34-year-old man, Michael Godla, appeared in Longford District Court on charges of assaulting a woman in a local park. The incident occurred at The Mall in Longford town on August 7, 2023, where a woman in her 50s sustained serious facial injuries during an early morning walk.

Godla, who resides at Annaly Court in Longford, made his latest court appearance following a formal charge in connection to the assault. This marks his second appearance in court after an initial hearing at Athlone District Court in January.

During the court proceedings, Sgt. Enda Daly mentioned that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was yet to provide directions regarding the case. As a result, a further adjournment was requested to allow for a thorough review of the investigation file.

Despite Judge Bernadette Owens emphasizing the need for case progression on the next court date, Godla’s defense solicitor, Frank Gearty, did not object to the adjournment request. The court remanded Godla on continuing bail until the next hearing scheduled for April 9 at Longford District Court.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, was taken to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital for medical treatment following the assault. The incident took place at around 2:30 am as she walked through the Mall complex in Longford town.

The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings move forward in Longford District Court. Godla’s appearance in court brings attention to the ongoing investigation into the assault, highlighting the importance of due process and justice in such cases.
