Arrested Teen Faces Murder Charges for 3-Year-Old’s Death, 2 Suspects Still at Large

Athens, Georgia – A 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody on charges of malice murder and felony murder in connection with the tragic shooting death of a 3-year-old child at an Athens mobile home park. The incident occurred on March 8 at Hallmark Mobile Home Park, where toddler Kyron Zarco was fatally wounded.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced the arrest of 16-year-old Jayden Brown in relation to the killing of Kyron Zarco. Brown is facing charges similar to those brought against another suspect, 17-year-old Jose Omar Cubillos of Lawrenceville, who was apprehended and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

Authorities have identified two additional suspects wanted in connection with the tragic shooting. They are 18-year-old Dakious Echols and 22-year-old Desmontrez Mathis, who are both being sought on the same charges as the other suspects. The investigation revealed that the victims, including Kyron and his 9-year-old brother, were inside the mobile home watching a movie when they were struck by gunfire.

After the incident, Kyron’s mother, Shanita Smith, shared the harrowing experience of the shooting and has set up an online fundraiser to help cover the funeral expenses for her young son. Additionally, Athens Clarke-County Police are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the whereabouts of Echols and Mathis.
