Explosion Victim’s Family Prepares for Funeral Amid Landlord Negligence Scandal in Orange County

Orange County, Florida – The family of 31-year-old Mikeanesha Moore is preparing for her funeral in Illinois on Saturday following her tragic death eight days after a gas explosion in their apartment at Woodhill Apartments in Orange County.

Real estate attorney Barry Miller explained the landlord’s obligations and legal requirements under Florida law in ensuring a safe living environment for tenants. Moore suffered severe 3rd and 4th degree burns over 40% of her body as a result of the explosion.

A lawsuit against the property owner, manager, and gas company revealed negligence, with uncapped and unplugged gas lines found in the laundry room. It was also noted that the complex failed to conduct a safety inspection before Moore moved in, highlighting critical lapses in maintaining a habitable living space.

Moore’s family described her as a vibrant individual who cherished life, loved creating content on social media platforms, and deeply valued her relationships with her husband and children. The devastating incident has left her husband and kids displaced, now residing in a hotel after losing all their belongings in the explosion.

The Lake Apopka Natural Gas District, implicated in the lawsuit, reported receiving numerous calls about potential gas leaks in the Woodhill Apartments community since January. Despite their immediate response to calls and diligent inspection procedures, the gas company reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of their services.

Miller emphasized the importance of documenting any issues at rental properties and reporting them to code enforcement to hold property owners accountable. This proactive approach can safeguard tenants and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of Moore and grapples with the aftermath of the explosion, efforts are underway to support the affected families and address the systemic failures that led to this preventable incident. The quest for justice and accountability remains paramount in the quest for safer housing conditions for all residents.
