Domestic Violence Attack Leads to Tragic Death of 11-Year-Old Boy in Edgewater

Chicago, Illinois – A tragic incident in Edgewater has left the community reeling after 11-year-old Jayden Perkins lost his life while trying to protect his pregnant mother from a domestic violence attack. The harrowing details leading up to Jayden’s death have been revealed in newly-released court documents.

Perkins was fatally stabbed by Crosetti Brand, a man with a history of domestic abuse and multiple orders of protection against him. Just one day before the attack, Brand was released from prison, where he had been serving time for violating an order of protection and prior convictions for home invasion and aggravated assault.

The events unfolded on a regular morning as Jayden’s mother was on the phone with her own mother, preparing to take her children to school. Brand forcibly entered the family’s apartment, beginning a horrific chain of events that ended in tragedy. As Brand stabbed the mother, Jayden courageously tried to intervene and protect her, resulting in his own fatal injuries.

Following the brutal attack, the mother managed to lock herself in a bedroom, where Brand continued to try and break in. It was during this time that a neighbor, alarmed by the sounds of distress, intervened and called for help. Emergency responders arrived to find Jayden with a fatal stab wound to his chest, while his mother sustained multiple injuries but was expected to survive along with her unborn baby.

Security footage captured Brand discarding evidence and changing his appearance before ultimately being apprehended by authorities. He faces serious charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder, home invasion, and other serious offenses related to the attack.

The tragic loss of Jayden Perkins serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence on families and communities. As the investigation continues and the legal process unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a young hero who bravely stood up to protect his loved ones in their time of need.
