Explosions in Elk Grove Caused by High-Grade Illegal Commercial Fireworks, Police Say

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Authorities in Elk Grove, California are actively searching for the individual responsible for setting off two explosive devices in the community. The Elk Grove Police Department is urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the identification of the suspect behind the incidents.

The first explosion occurred inside the Jones Family Park bathroom around 7:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, followed by another blast in a trash bin on Baneberry Court almost exactly 24 hours later. Both incidents are believed to be the work of the same individual, according to police.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the explosives were “high-grade illegal commercial fireworks,” as confirmed by the Elk Grove Police Department. Surveillance footage from a home security camera captured a man in a black hoodie and distinctive pants riding a bicycle in the vicinity of the explosions.

Residents in the affected neighborhoods, like Darius Barquero, were startled and unnerved by the sudden blasts. Barquero described feeling the vibrations from the explosion through his window, prompting him to rush outside to assess the situation. The aftermath of the explosions left debris scattered around the area, creating a sense of unease among the community.
