Shooting Tragedy Strikes Jacksonville Beach: Family Mourns Father, Son, and Uncle James Jones III

Jacksonville Beach, Florida – A community mourns the loss of 21-year-old James Jones III, a father, brother, son, and uncle who was tragically shot and killed in one of three shootings that occurred in Jacksonville Beach on Sunday night.

Jones, who had recently become a first-time father to a baby girl, left behind devastated family members who are struggling to come to terms with his senseless death. His mother, Katrina Williams, expressed her deep anguish, stating that she is forever scarred by the tragedy.

Described as a valuable member of their family, Jones was known for his passion as a father and his dedication to nurturing his three-month-old daughter. As one of five siblings, he held a special place as the middle child with a big personality, setting an example for his younger brothers and sisters.

The shooting that took Jones’s life occurred on St. Patrick’s Day in the parking lot of Sneaker’s Sports Bar and Grill, a night that forever tarnished the fond memories of trips to the beach for his loved ones. His mother recalled the heart-wrenching sight of her son lying on the ground, a scene that continues to haunt her.

Shameka Wilcox, Jones’s cousin, emphasized the need for increased security in Jacksonville Beach, highlighting the contrast between the area’s reputation as a place of leisure and the recent violence that has turned it into a “murder ground.” Despite the police’s mention of a previous disturbance involving teenagers near the pier, Jones’s family asserts that he was not associated with that group and was not involved in any trouble.

A former student of Oakleaf High School, where he played football and graduated in 2021, Jones had aspirations of becoming a merchant mariner. His absence has left a void in both his family and the Oakleaf community, where he was well-respected and admired.

As authorities continue their search for Jones’s shooter, his family remains resolute in their faith and determination to seek justice. They urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing closure to this tragic loss, emphasizing the power of unity and prayer in their quest for resolution.
