Stabbing Suspect Arrested for Murder of Twin Sisters outside Brooklyn Deli

Brooklyn, New York – A tragic incident unfolded outside a deli in Brooklyn, New York, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on murder charges. Veo Kelly of Stuyvesant Heights turned himself in to the New York Police Department after a five-day manhunt, accompanied by his attorney on Friday morning. The charges stem from the stabbing of twin sisters, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Samyia Spain from Park Slope, and the injury of her sister, Sanyia Spain, who was taken to the hospital in stable condition after being stabbed in the arm.

Kelly is also facing charges of assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Kelly was identified through video surveillance from the bodega. The incident occurred after Kelly allegedly became aggressive with the sisters, attempting to obtain contact information. When his advances were rebuffed, the situation escalated from verbal to physical, resulting in the tragic outcome.

The grieving Park Slope community has come together to mourn the loss of Samyia Spain, describing her as a bright and kind soul ready to take on the world. Candles were placed outside the twins’ home in remembrance of Spain. A GoFundMe page has been set up by Spain’s family to raise funds for her memorial, highlighting her loving and caring nature.

Mohammed Albhar, a worker at the deli where the tragic event took place, expressed shock over the incident, mentioning that the girls were regular customers at the store. Describing Samyia as friendly and kind, Albhar reflected on watching the girls grow up over the years. The community has shown support by visiting the deli, offering cards, and checking in on employees during this difficult time.

As the investigation continues and the legal process unfolds, the impact of this senseless act of violence reverberates through the tight-knit community of Park Slope. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the need for kindness, compassion, and understanding in all interactions, as a community comes to terms with the loss of a promising young life.
