Murder-Suicide Tragedy Strikes Queens Home: Man Shoots Girlfriend in Head Before Taking His Own Life

New York, USA – A tragic incident unfolded in Queens as a 38-year-old man, identified as Joseph Murphy, allegedly shot his girlfriend, Kenisha Mirrison, in the head before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide, according to authorities.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on 143rd St. near Glassboro Ave. in Jamaica around 2:45 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers discovered both individuals deceased inside the home with gunshot wounds to their heads. A handgun was found next to Murphy’s body, leading investigators to believe that he shot Mirrison before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities are treating the incident as a murder-suicide but are awaiting the results of an autopsy before making further determinations, as per a police source familiar with the case. The tragic event appears to have put an end to ongoing domestic issues between Murphy and Mirrison, although it remains unclear if law enforcement had previously been called to intervene in any altercations between the couple.

This unfortunate event marks the third murder-suicide involving romantic partners within three months across the five boroughs. In February, a 43-year-old woman named Luz Maribel Espinal was fatally shot by her new boyfriend in Brooklyn before he took his own life. Similarly, in January, a couple, Jason Jackson and Olga Kirshenbaum, both 34, were found dead in their Brooklyn apartment in an apparent murder-suicide.

These tragic incidents shed light on the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of early intervention and support for individuals in such relationships to prevent further senseless violence. The authorities are continuing their investigations to understand the circumstances surrounding the Queens murder-suicide and provide closure to the victims’ families and loved ones.
