Accidents on I-79 Cause Closure and Fatality in Monongalia County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Multiple accidents on Interstate 79 in Monongalia County caused significant disruptions Tuesday morning, leading to the closure of the southbound lanes of the highway. Tragically, one driver lost their life amidst the chaos that unfolded near the Westover interchange. The incident involved a Ford Escort, a Mack truck, and a West Virginia Courtesy Patrol Vehicle.

Initial reports indicate that the sedan lost control on a bridge and was subsequently struck by the Mack truck. Sadly, the driver of the sedan succumbed to their injuries as a result of the collision. However, the drivers of the Mack truck and the Courtesy Patrol Vehicle emerged unharmed from the incident.
