Las Vegas, Nevada – A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday at an apartment complex in the southwest valley, where a man lost his life in a seemingly random attack. The victim, who was on the job with his brother in a cleaning business, was fatally shot by an assailant.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene at the Venicia Apartments on South Fort Apache Road near West Twain Avenue around 4 p.m. Lt. Jason Johansson of the Metropolitan Police Department revealed that the victim was found next to a white van near the complex’s entrance.
Despite efforts to save the victim’s life, he succumbed to his injuries at University Medical Center. Witnesses at the scene described the shooter as a person with facial tattoos, carrying multiple bags, who fled through the front entrance of the complex. The suspect, initially believed to be a man, was later apprehended in a nearby neighborhood and turned out to be a woman.
Authorities shared that the suspect, who had a criminal record, was originally spotted inside the complex, not residing there, and was seen attempting to access cars, possibly with intent to burglarize. The leasing manager was alerted by some residents, and maintenance workers were sent to remove the suspect from the property.
The victim and his brother were inside their white van belonging to a carpet cleaning company, Immaculate Restoration and Carpet Care, when the suspect approached them suddenly, brandishing a handgun. Without any prior interaction, the suspect shot and killed the victim, who was in the driver’s seat. Investigators believe the shooting was entirely random, leaving an innocent, hardworking individual dead while carrying out his job.
Unfolding at the apartment complex in a heartbreaking turn of events, a family member expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their loved one. The victim’s brother, grieving the loss, described the challenges of breaking the news to their mother and the shattered expectations of a forthcoming visit from their homeland, El Salvador.
