Beirut, Lebanon – Four United Nations peacekeepers were injured by a shell explosion near southern Lebanon, where tensions have been escalating due to frequent skirmishes and cross-border firings between Israel and the Hezbollah movement. While Lebanese media reports have pointed fingers at Israel for the explosion along the Blue Line that separates Lebanon from Israel, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) has not confirmed the source of the shelling. The injured military observers were on a foot patrol when the shell detonated near them, prompting UNTSO to denounce the attack and launch an investigation into the incident.
UNTSO emphasized the importance of protecting non-combatants, including peacekeepers, journalists, medical personnel, and civilians, under international humanitarian law.
