Walmart Employee Opens Fire Inside Store, Killing One and Injuring Child: Search Underway

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. – Law enforcement is currently on a search for a 19-year-old suspect who allegedly shot two individuals inside a Walmart in Fayetteville. On Friday night around 10 p.m., Fayetteville police responded to reports of gunfire at a Walmart located on Pavillion Parkway.

Upon arrival, authorities found 19-year-old Antavius Holton from Riverdale and a nine-year-old girl who had both sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where sadly, Holton succumbed to his injuries while the young girl remains in stable condition.

The perpetrator has been identified as 19-year-old Adrian Jelks, an employee at the Walmart establishment. Investigators believe the incident was isolated, with Jelks intending to target a specific individual, resulting in the unintended shooting of the young girl.

Following the shooting, Jelks fled the scene in a vehicle, later abandoning it. He is currently at large and considered armed and dangerous by law enforcement. Additionally, 19-year-old Sandra Romero-Nunez has been apprehended and charged with complicity in the crimes of murder and aggravated assault, although her specific role in the event has not been disclosed.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Jelks’ whereabouts to contact the police immediately. They are working diligently to locate and apprehend the suspect as the investigation into the tragic incident unfolds. Walmart corporate officials have expressed their deep regret over the events that transpired within their Fayetteville store and are cooperating fully with authorities as they proceed with the case.
