Ethics Complaint Looms for Attorney General over Hazelwood School District Investigation

St. Louis, Missouri – The Hazelwood School District is considering the possibility of filing an ethics complaint against Attorney General Andrew Bailey due to his recent actions regarding the investigation of the district’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. The district spokesperson has confirmed new details surrounding a violent altercation that resulted in severe injuries to 16-year-old Kaylee Gain. It has come to light that a day prior to the incident that harmed Gain, another fight occurred on school grounds, involving a uniformed guard in the intervention. As a result of this earlier altercation, at least one student was suspended.

Although the district did not disclose the identity of the suspended student, an attorney representing the other party involved in the videoed altercation with Gain revealed that it was, indeed, Gain who had been suspended for the previous day’s fight. Gain’s suspension sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the subsequent violent incident, which took place close to the school but off school premises. The attorney noted that the initial fight was a precursor to the critical injuries suffered by Gain the following day.

In response to the national attention garnered by the distressing incident, Attorney General Andrew Bailey publicly announced an investigation into the school district’s DEI policies, attempting to draw a connection between the altercation and the district’s stance on diversity and inclusion. However, the district and local law enforcement refuted Bailey’s claims, citing inaccuracies in his statements. Bailey’s attempt to link the incident to the school’s lack of School Resource Officers was met with criticism and rebuttal.

The Missouri NAACP criticized Bailey’s selective attention to incidents of racial discrimination within schools, highlighting his failure to address issues faced by Black students. Teachers and school leaders have faced threats following Bailey’s insinuation that the school’s DEI policies were somehow responsible for the altercation. Concerns have been raised about potential legal action against Bailey for his handling of the situation, with discussions underway regarding a possible ethics complaint against the Attorney General. The district is exploring its options and remains steadfast in addressing the implications of Bailey’s actions.
