Explosion in Cascade Ridge Subdivision Leaves One Seriously Injured in Big Sky, Montana

BIG SKY, Mont. – An explosion in the Cascade Ridge Subdivision in Big Sky on Friday afternoon left one person seriously injured. The incident resulted in significant damage to a residential structure, with flames reaching 15 feet above the roofline.

According to reports, the Big Sky Fire Department promptly responded to the scene, dispatching two engines, two ambulances, and two command units to assess the situation. Additional support from neighboring fire departments and law enforcement agencies was also requested to aid in managing the aftermath of the explosion.

Witnesses described seeing a large black smoke column rising from the site of the blast, indicating the severity of the explosion and the subsequent fire. Although the primary structure sustained a total loss, the surrounding buildings incurred minimal damage.

The occupant of the residence impacted by the explosion was transported to a Regional Burn Center to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. The incident prompted a coordinated response from various emergency response teams, including the Yellowstone Mountain Rural Fire Club, Gallatin Gateway Fire Department, Hyalite Fire Department, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, and Bozeman Fire Department.

In a statement released following the incident, the Big Sky Fire Department provided updates on the situation and highlighted the collaborative efforts of all responding agencies in mitigating the impact of the explosion. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
