Cleveland Woman Indicted for Murder in Fatal Chase and Shooting: Trinity Ford Faces Charges in Antwoina Carter Case

Cleveland, Ohio – A Cleveland woman faces charges related to the fatal shooting of Antwoina Carter in a recent incident that involved a car chase. Trinity Ford, 19, was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on charges of murder, felonious assault, and discharging a weapon on a public roadway. She is set to appear in court for arraignment on Friday with a bond set at $1 million.

According to authorities, Ford was driving the vehicle involved in the chase that led to the shooting of Carter on East 105th Street. Carter, 26, succumbed to a gunshot wound to her back, which was ruled a homicide. She sustained significant injuries to her heart and spine before crashing her car near her mother’s residence on Garfield Avenue.

During the incident, two Cleveland police officers, who were responding to a disturbance complaint at Carter’s mother’s house, witnessed the shooting. The officers reportedly fired at the car as it approached them. However, preliminary findings from the county medical examiner’s office suggested that police actions were not directly responsible for Carter’s death. Subsequently, the investigation was turned over to Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies due to the involvement of law enforcement in the shooting.

The indictment against Ford includes a firearm specification that could result in an additional five years in prison if she is found guilty. This specification is related to the act of discharging a weapon from a motor vehicle, as per the charges brought against her.

Ford’s defense attorney, Thomas Shaughnessy, has refrained from commenting on the case as he was recently assigned to represent her. It remains unclear at this time whether the suspected shooter involved in the incident has been apprehended by law enforcement. Ford’s arraignment hearing on the charges is scheduled to take place at Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court later this week.
