Arrest Made in Homicide Case Involving Illegal Alien Suspect

Hamilton, Ohio – Authorities have identified the victim in a homicide case involving an individual described as an “illegal alien.” Fernando Reyna Oviedo, 41, succumbed to a gunshot wound on April 1 in the 1100 block of S. 13th Street, as confirmed by the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Efforts are currently underway to locate Oviedo’s family, and individuals with pertinent information are urged to contact the coroner’s office at 513-785-5860. Shortly after Oviedo’s tragic death, 46-year-old Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez was arrested in connection to the case, facing charges of aggravated murder among others as indicated by jail records.

During a press conference, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones highlighted Garcia-Gutierrez’s alarming history, stating that the suspect has been deported seven times and has utilized multiple aliases and birth dates during his 11 incarcerations. Concerns regarding illegal immigration and border security were also raised by the sheriff in light of this case.

Sheriff Jones noted that their jail has housed close to 1,000 “illegal aliens” facing state charges since July 2021. Responding to these concerns, the Ohio Immigration Alliance emphasized that studies from reputable institutions consistently show that immigrants commit crimes at a significantly lower rate than US-born individuals, countering the narrative perpetuated by certain advocacy groups.

Hamilton police have confirmed that Garcia-Gutierrez is the sole suspect in Oviedo’s murder, indicating that no further suspects are being sought in connection to the case. The investigation into the tragic incident continues, as authorities work to bring justice to the victim and their loved ones affected by this senseless act of violence.
