Ghaziabad, India – A tragic incident unfolded on National Highway 9 (NH-9) near Dasna in Ghaziabad early Monday morning, where an unidentified individual was struck by a speeding vehicle and subsequently run over by multiple vehicles due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. Ghaziabad police reported the details of the incident on Tuesday.
The victim, whose identity remains unknown, was hit near Sadbhawna crossing, resulting in a horrific scene that left the body unrecognizable and scattered across the road by the time authorities arrived at the location. Sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Singh, in charge of the Dasna police post, described the gruesome discovery as a challenge for law enforcement due to the severe condition of the remains.
Despite efforts to discern crucial details from the scene and CCTV footage, identifying the victim or the vehicle responsible for the initial collision has proven difficult. The police recovered remnants of clothing believed to belong to the deceased, prompting suspicions that the victim was likely a man based on the items found at the site.
With NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway seeing heavy traffic flow daily, authorities stress the importance of caution, especially during foggy conditions. Virendra Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of police (traffic), emphasized the necessity of drivers reducing speed, using headlights and fog lights, and staying in designated lanes to ensure road safety in challenging weather.
Despite the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified driver, the investigation into the incident continues, with authorities hopeful that further leads, such as DNA matching or information from potential missing persons reports, will shed light on the tragic events that transpired on NH-9. Assistant commissioner of police Saloni Agarwal expressed optimism in the possibility of advancing the case with additional surveillance footage and collaboration with NHAI patrol personnel.
