Viry-Châtillon, France – A tragic incident has shocked the community as a 15-year-old boy passed away from injuries sustained during a violent assault near his school. This unfortunate event marks the second brutal attack on a student in just one week, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to address the urgent need to safeguard schools from the “uninhibited violence” observed among some youth.
The young victim, identified as Shamseddine, was viciously beaten near his school in Viry-Châtillon, a town located approximately 20km south of Paris. Following a cardiac arrest, he was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, focusing on charges of murder and gang assault.
In connection to the attack, law enforcement detained five individuals on Friday afternoon, including three 17-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and a 20-year-old. Mayor Jean-Marie Vilain of Viry-Châtillon expressed outrage over the senseless act of violence, describing the assailants as “the worst kind of thugs” who targeted the boy as he was walking home from a music class. The assailants were reportedly wearing balaclavas during the attack.
As the community grapples with this tragedy, Mayor Vilain announced the establishment of a support unit to provide psychological assistance to those affected. Three individuals suspected of carrying out the assault have been charged with attempted murder and are currently in custody.
