Bhupatinagar Blast: NIA Denies Malicious Intent, Condemns Unprovoked Attack on Team

Purba Medinipur, West Bengal – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) dismissed allegations of malicious intent during recent raids related to a two-year-old blast case in Bhupatinagar. The NIA team faced an attack by a crowd when attempting to arrest two suspects in the case, where three individuals lost their lives in December 2022.

According to an NIA spokesperson, the agency firmly denied any wrongdoing in the Bhupatinagar blast case. The incident occurred as the NIA team encountered resistance, resulting in one officer getting injured and a vehicle damaged during the operation.

The NIA condemned the attack as unprovoked, responding to accusations from Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee of an alleged alliance between the NIA and the BJP. Banerjee criticized the Election Commission for not addressing the issue, suggesting a collaboration against Trinamool leaders.

In a statement, the NIA defended its actions as lawful and essential to their investigation into the blast incident. The agency confirmed that arrests were made following legal procedures, emphasizing that the team faced violence from the crowd without instigation.

The situation escalated as the NIA personnel faced assault while transporting an arrested individual, leading to injuries and damage to NIA property. The agency has filed a complaint seeking legal action against the assailants in response to the attack.

The NIA’s involvement in the Bhupatinagar blast case, which began in June 2023 under the directive of the Calcutta High Court, reflects ongoing efforts to address the serious nature of the incident. The agency conducted searches and arrests in compliance with legal protocols, aiming to resolve the case effectively.

Additionally, the NIA’s actions sparked memories of a previous incident in January 2022 when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) faced similar hostilities during an operation. The NIA continues to uphold its commitment to thorough investigations while addressing challenges and opposition in the pursuit of justice.
