Explosive Device Thrown Onto Porch of Satanic Temple in Massachusetts, No Injuries Reported

Salem, Massachusetts – Authorities in Salem, Massachusetts are investigating an incident where an explosive device was thrown onto the porch of The Satanic Temple. The device, discovered nearly 12 hours later when staff arrived, caused damage but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

State police bomb technicians quickly ensured the area was safe, with police dogs conducting sweeps and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives providing assistance. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has also joined the investigation to determine the motive behind the incident.

According to police reports, the device was thrown onto the temple’s porch early on Monday morning and was not noticed until much later in the day. Although details about the extent of the damage were not disclosed by authorities.

This is not the first time The Satanic Temple has faced threats and hate crimes, as indicated by previous bomb threats and incidents of vandalism. In a separate incident, a man faced charges after setting fire to the building in 2022. Similarly, in Iowa, a hate crime charge was brought against an individual for destroying a statue of a pagan idol at the state Capitol.

Founded in 2013 in Salem, The Satanic Temple distinguishes itself as a non-theistic religious organization promoting secularism, despite its name. It is important to note that the group is distinct from the Church of Satan, established in the 1960s, and does not actually worship Satan. The authorities continue to investigate the incident to ensure the safety and security of all involved.
